Nedbank Cup: Bucs Set for Usuthu Challenge

Orlando Pirates are preparing to defend their Nedbank Cup crown in KwaZulu-Natal, where they will face AmaZulu in the quarterfinal.

The Buccaneers continue their quest for back-to-back championships, having won the prized trophy for the eighth time in the previous edition of the event.

After ending the weekend among the eight surviving clubs in this year’s championship, they were drawn against the KwaZulu-Natal side that had just beaten Sekhukhune United 2-0 away.

Usuthu began their season with a stunning 1-0 victory at home over provincial rivals Royal AM.

Following their successful travels in the Round of 16, they will visit the Soweto Giants, who won 6-0 on the road against fourth-tier team Crystal Lake in the first round before defeating Championship side Hungry Lions 4-0 at Orlando Stadium in the Round of 16.

The match pits South Africa’s two oldest professional football teams, with Pirates trying to take another step toward a tenth title and AmaZulu still looking for their first victory after finishing second six times since 1971.

The Premier Soccer League will announce the match site, date, and kickoff time in due course.
