The Morning After…the Bears trade Justin Fields to Steelers
The Chicago Bears traded quarterback Justin Fields to the Pittsburgh Steelers in exchange for a conditional sixth-round draft pick that could be converted into a fourth-round pick based on playing time.
For Bears supporters, this marks the end of what was meant to be a wonderful period. Fields, taken with the 11th overall choice in 2021, was expected to break the quarterback curse. Instead, he lasted only three years in Chicago. To be honest, he wasn’t dealt a fantastic starting hand as a rookie. And, while he did have his best season in Year 3 — when he needed to make significant development — it doesn’t change the fact that the Bears have the first overall pick and USC standout Caleb Williams within reach.
In three seasons with Chicago, Fields completed 60.3% of his throws for 6,674 yards, 40 touchdowns, and 30 interceptions. He carried for 2,220 yards (1,143 in 2022) and 14 touchdowns. Fields had a 10-28 record as a starter.
