West Ham to approach Manchester United for defender who has turned a corner this season.
West Ham are allegedly ready to make a “formal approach” to buy Manchester United defender Harry Maguire, nearly a year after they first expressed interest.
Last summer, the Hammers expressed interest in bringing Maguire to the London Stadium. However, the England international chose to stay at Old Trafford with Manchester United.
With two months left in the season, clubs are already beginning to plan for the summer transfer market. Premier League clubs spent more than £2 billion last summer, and West Ham will be active again this year.
The former Leicester City defender’s contract with United is slated to expire in 2025, which means he is reaching the conclusion of his current agreement. However, United can extend his contract for another year, but West Ham are hoping to persuade Maguire to join them.
Maguire did not begin the season as one of Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag’s preferred centre-back options. Because of injuries to Lisandro Martinez and Raphael Varane this season, Maguire has been afforded ample opportunities, with the England international appearing 23 times in all competitions, though he has missed United’s last three games owing to a fitness issue.

Harry Maguire has been a subpar performer in recent years. Although he is a fine defender, the strain of playing for a team like Manchester United, being captain, and all that comes with it may be too much for the England international to bear.
