Moyes has been linked with a move away from the Hammers at the end of the season, when his contract is set to expire, but he has stated that the board has offered him an extension, despite rumours elsewhere that they are unsure if they want him to be in charge next season.
Fan Liv Elliott of the Blowing Bubbles magazine spoke on The Overlap: Fan Debate (March 28) and revealed that there are reservations about the manager’s playing style at the London Stadium, prompting Carragher to defend the boss.
“Can it ever get better for West Ham?” that’s what he said. “You won a prize; you claim you should be in the top six, but you’re now seventh. So you are right up there.
“You’re about where most people who aren’t West Ham fans would expect you to be, if not somewhat overachieving. Is it simply better football? Because, to be honest, I don’t see West Ham ever finishing higher in the table.
West Ham fans are fully aware that Moyes has done an excellent job so far at the club, and you’d be hard pressed to find someone who isn’t grateful to him for that.
Winning the Europa Conference League is the best night the club has had in a long time for supporters, and pushing into the latter stages of the Europa League this season has shown progress.
But, given the players on the roster and the money spent, these are the goals that the team should be aiming for.
Fans want these results and successes to go hand in hand with exciting football, and there’s no reason why they shouldn’t have a manager who can do both.
With Moyes no longer under contract, now is the time for everyone to go their separate ways and attempt something different, so it will be interesting to watch what West Ham decides to do.
