Sydney Roosters inflict huge defeat on South Sydney to heap pressure on Jason Demetriou.

The Sydney Roosters scored their second-highest victory in history over intercity rivals South Sydney, putting pressure on Rabbitohs coach Jason Demetriou.

The Bunnies are still winless at the start of the new season, having lost their third consecutive game at the start of 2024, and they were no match for the Roosters here in Jared Waerea-Hargreaves’ 300th NRL game.

Trent Robinson’s team won 48-6, and James Tedesco demonstrated once more why he is still one of the world’s best fullbacks. Tedesco was one of several standout players for the Roosters, who led 18-0 at halftime and were far too excellent for their main rivals.

England winger Dom Young started the scoring after three minutes, and a double from Sam Walker later in the half gave the Bunnies a dominant three-goal advantage at the halftime, which they never seemed likely to overcome.

Instead, things became worse for them as the second half progressed.

Joey Manu scored a minute after the restart, followed by Connor Watson and Manu as the game neared its end. Souths responded briefly with a try by Jacob Host, but the game had already been settled.

And Tedesco capped off a fantastic night for the Roosters with two tries of his own in the closing five minutes, ensuring the Roosters equalled their second-largest win of all time over the Bunnies.

Souths, who are currently 0-3 at the start of 2024, will put further more pressure on Demetriou as the season progresses.
