Moyes has faced tremendous criticism from the Hammers, who despite having Mohammed Kudus, Jarrod Bowen, and Lucas Paqueta at his disposal, have been harshly critiquing the conservative style of play.

Calls for the manager’s dismissal have persisted despite a recent uptick in results, and Browen thinks the West Ham board might have done more to calm the supporters.

Brown stated on Saturday, 6 April, on BBC’s Final Score, as reported by BBC Sport: “It is a really strange situation at West Ham.”

There are rumours of David Moyes signing a new contract just when you believe they are succeeding, moving forward in Europe, and closing the gap on the top six. But all of it has vanished.

“He is a genuine worker with incredible expertise who goes above and beyond for the football team.

“The supporters desire a more offensive kind of football, and Moyes has made an effort to be more forward-thinking, win a few games, and put winning back as the first priority. Still, they’re in an excellent spot.

“I believe that the board ought to have backed David Moyes sooner. It would have reduced the commotion surrounding him and the group.

Having won the Europa Conference League and West Ham’s first European championship in several decades last season, Moyes has been a huge success at the London Stadium.

But he can’t dispute that most of the performances since the beginning of 2024 have been dreadfully poor because football is a results-based sport.

At the beginning of the season, the Hammers went on an eight-game losing skid, which included defeats by Bristol City in the FA Cup, a 2-2 tie with Sheffield United in 20th position, and a 6-0 hammering by Arsenal.

Even though they ended that streak in February with a 4-2 victory over Brentford and went on to play in the Europa League by eluding Freiburg, the clamour for Moyes’ dismissal is back and stronger than ever.
