Everton could do with a player like Sammie Szmodics

While the 28-year-old is an attacking midfielder by trade, he has played a number of games as a striker this past season.

It’s no surprise that he’s bagged 27 goals in the league, but the majority of them have come from the number 10 position.

Abdoulaye Doucoure has been deployed as the secondary striker by Sean Dyche and he would undoubtedly take someone like Szmodics in that role as it will even help ease the goal-scoring burden on.

Captain Seamus Coleman, veteran Ashley Young and versatile option Ben Godfrey have regularly been preferred to the former Rangers man, however Patterson got a rare opportunity at Stamford Bridge on Monday night (15 April).

Coleman was forced off with an injury at half-time with the Toffees 4-0 down, and despite Young already being on the pitch and Godfrey also being on the bench it was Patterson who was brought on as a substitute.
