Cardiff City 2022/23 Championship fixtures in full as Bluebirds start at home to Norwich City - Wales Online

If  Cardiff City supporters were expecting a nice, quiet summer after a rare season of stability, they thought wrong.

We’re just a week away from June and supporters are still none the wiser as to who will be managing them next season, as Erol Bulut’s one-year deal is set to come to an end this summer, and an extension still hasn’t been agreed.

The majority of Bluebirds fans are in favour of keeping Bulut after he led the club to a respectable 12th-placed finish, but developments at Burnley mean they could have another man on their radar this summer.

Craig Bellamy has been Vincent Kompany’s assistant at Turf Moor, but Kompany is set to depart for Bayern Munich. However, it’s been reported by The Athletic that Bellamy will not be moving to Germany, and this could open the door for Cardiff City if Burnley decide not to appoint the Welshman himself as their next head coach.

Cardiff City should be monitoring Craig Bellamy this summer

It remains to be seen what the future holds for Erol Bulut at Cardiff City, but it’s not beyond the realms of possibility that the club could be looking for a new manager this summer.

With Craig Bellamy seemingly not planning to join Vincent Kompany in Germany, he could choose to forge a managerial career of his own, with his only previous managerial experience coming with Anderlecht under-21’s and as assistant to Kompany at Burnley.

You’d have thought that Bellamy would be one of the front-runners to become Burnley manager if and when Kompany joins Bayern, but perhaps a move to Cardiff City would be hard to turn down for the Welshman.

Bellamy is from Cardiff, and appeared for the club during his playing days, spending the 2010/11 season on loan in the Welsh capital from Manchester City, before spending his final two seasons as a player with the club, helping them win promotion to the Premier League in 2013.

He clearly loves the club, and began his coaching career with the Bluebirds, but he stepped down in controversial circumstances in 2019 after allegations of bullying.
