Playing football at St James’ Park is the dream of many a kid born round these parts but few actually get to do it, but next season one Newcastle United fan is going to see his dream realised.
Ipswich Town gained promotion back to the Premier League after a 22-year absence and amongst their ranks is highly-rated 24-year-old left-back Leif Davis.
The Geordie defender has had a phenomenal season with The Tractor Boys with 21 assists and two goals in his 43 appearances. Those are Kieran Trippier numbers right there.
Newcastle have been tentatively linked with an interest in Davis, however, it may just have been journalists putting a player from Newcastle who has had a good season together with his boyhood club as an easy story.
Davis admitted his biggest ambition is to play for Newcastle
Whatever the truth regarding the Magpies’ interest in the defender, Davis will realise a dream next season by playing at St James’ Park, it now just depends which side he’s turning out for.
In a clip from a recent interview, put online by Football Daily, Davis admitted that playing for Newcastle is his biggest ambition.
“It’s incredible how it’s turned around, everyone up there in Newcastle is so happy at the minute.”
Leif Davis would jump at the chance to join Newcastle
West Ham and Newcastle were tipped to move for Davis back in March, but things have quietened down on that front since.
With Lloyd Kelly’s imminent arrival and his ability to play left-back as well as centre-back, Newcastle may not be as keen now, which would be a huge shame for Newcastle and Davis himself.
His stats last season, as we said, were Trippier-esque but on the left side. He would be an ideal coup for Newcastle and he would jump at the chance to join.
