After Adam Wharton, Crystal Palace now want to pinch another top talent from Blackburn Rovers
After taking Adam Wharton from Blackburn Rovers in January, Crystal Palace now want to sign another top talent currently impressing at Ewood Park.
Dougie Freedman arguably made his best signing yet when plucking the England U21 international from the Championship outfit in a £22m deal – Blackburn Rovers fans even recently revealed that they feel “robbed” by the Eagles, given the fact the Crystal Palace No.20 is currently worth at least double that sum.
Now – according to Alan Nixon – Crystal Palace want to sign another prodigy from Blackburn Rovers after the success of Adam Wharton…
Crystal Palace want to sign Igor Tyjon
Nixon has now claimed that Crystal Palace are interested in signing Igor Tyjon.
The 16-year-old has made a real name for himself in the youth ranks at Ewood Park, and even appeared on the bench in two Championship outings last season.
Nixon adds that Manchester United and Brighton are also keen to sign Tyjon, although Blackburn Rovers are hoping to tie the England U16 international down to a new contract.
This sounds far from a straightforward deal for Freedman to pursue.
Nixon also mentions that Tyjon is keen to play senior football at Ewood Park – which suggests he would be open to signing a contract.
However, it is also said that, in the event of any departure, Manchester United would be the most enticing destination for the teenager, rather than Crystal Palace.
Nevertheless, anything is possible with Freedman in place as Director of Football – a position he is now set to continue impressing in after the Glaswegian rejected Newcastle.
Encouraging signs regardless
Even if we end up missing out on Tyjon’s signature, it is encouraging to see that Freedman is clearly alert to market opportunities regarding the best talent in England.
Not only is the Scot snapping up leading talent from the Championship, such as Wharton, Ebere Eze and Michael Olise – talks are also taking place over Norwich City No.17 Gabriel Sara – but he is evidently trying to future proof Crystal Palace by focusing on the next generation as well.
