The Republic of Ireland striker has proven to be a big player for the Hoops despite massive doubts around his loan signing from Norwich in January. He has scored huge league goals against Hibs, Motherwell and Rangers to keep the title bid going and then he popped up with a dream winner in the Scottish Cup final at the weekend.
Idah’s loan deal now comes to an end and there was no option to buy inserted in the loan. But Hoops boss Brendan Rodgers has made no secret of the fact he’d like to keep the big frontman for longer, with the 23-year-old more coy on it when quizzed during the celebrations at Hampden.
Idah joined the Hoops on deadline day but his loan move initially underwhelmed Hoops fans, considering the Republic of Ireland international was third choice striker at Norwich City. But the 23-year-old quickly made his critics eat their words by scoring crucial goals against the likes of Motherwell, Hibs and Rangers to help fire the Parkhead side to title glory.
And Idah wrote his name in Celtic folklore by netting a 90th-minute winner against Rangers to secure a famous Double – a perfect ending to his short-term stint in Glasgow. Rodgers, though, has made it clear he’d love to keep the Canaries striker for next season and believes he was key to Celtic’s success.
He told BBC Scotland: “To score a winning goal in a Scottish Cup final, and especially coming from Ireland, it’s a fairytale really and I’m so pleased for him. He came in and he was not playing so much at Norwich, but I’d seen him before and I know the talent he has, and I think he still has so much improvement to make, but I’m really pleased for him.
