As a result, Everton’s position has been strengthened, with a potential loan deal on the cards for Phillips.

The 28-year-old has played just 911 minutes of football across all competitions for Pep Guardiola’s side over the last two years and was loaned out to West Ham United in January, with the player eager to seek out more regular game time

The 31-cap England international’s quality is not in question, but his confidence appears to be at an all-time low. Therefore, a loan deal with an option to buy could prove a low-risk, sensible move for Everton if Sean Dyche believes he can revive Phillips’ career.
