No Kane, No Richarlison? Spurs to eye Watkins as new number nine
Tottenham Hotspur have been linked with a move for a centre-forward in the upcoming summer transfer window, and a humongous list of number nines have been linked with a move to White Hart Lane.
The North Londoners are yet to replace Harry Kane up front, who left N17 to pursue pastures with Bayern Munich last summer. The departure of the England international, complemented by the expected desertion of Richarlison, means that the Lilywhites will be looking to bring in a new number nine in the off-season.
Tottenham gaffer Ange Postecoglou did try to play South Korean ace Son in the central role this season owing to the injury concerns of the former Everton star and to be fair, it was a bit touch-and-go having the 31-year-old striker upfront. The Australian gaffer will be looking to add more goal-scoring potential to the roster this offseason.
Desperate Spurs? Club scrambles to find Kane replacement
Former Tottenham scout Bryan King has urged the club to ditch their plans for Dominic Solanke and other strikers to sign Aston Villa striker Ollie Watkins in the summer. He insists that a striker like Watkins is needed to push Tottenham to the next level.
“If Tottenham receive a big-money offer from Saudi Arabia for Richarlison, then I would suggest they sell him,” King said.
“And if they’re looking at Solanke, then why aren’t they looking at Watkins? That has got to be the type of player they are targeting if they want to go to the next level.”
Is Watkins the type of striker that would take the club from a UCL-place contender to a Premier League contender? Let us know your thoughts in the comments below.
