The Black Cats parted ways with Michael Beale in February and were led by Mike Dodds until the end of the season. They finished in 16th, a long way away from the play-off spots they ended up in in the season prior.

Pressure is on the board to get this appointment right after some questionable calls and while plenty of the summer remains, patience will start to wear thing among supporters as their new boss hunt drags on and rival clubs bring in their own manager.

Highly-rated boss Will Still has been a Sunderland target before but reports have said the club have been looking elsewhere.

However, new claims have emerged stating he could yet be in a good position to land the role. Football Insider states the Black Cats have interviewed Still and after previous reservations of how he’d fit at the Stadium of Light, he remains ‘firmly in the running’ for the post.

Speculation over who the next Sunderland manager could be has been rife. Links have been and gone with nothing confirmed and as time passes, they’re losing out on key preparation time for next season.

It would be interesting to see if a compromise was met between the two clubs, or if either party revised their position to meet an agreement. Furthermore, it would be hoped that this initial hesitation wasn’t something that came back to bite the club.

Fans are keen for a new boss to come in but with Still links chopping and changing, only time will tell just who takes the reins at Sunderland.
