Dan Bardell believes Davinson Sanchez would represent a downgrade for Everton if he is to replace Jarrad Branthwaite this summer.

A report by Sabah Sport (25 May) has suggested that the Toffees are interested in signing the Colombian from Galatasaray this summer.

The Turkish outlet reported that Everton would have to pay over £97.6 million for his services which is a large outlay given the club’s financial issues.

This may point towards his purchase being used to cover outgoing deals such as Branthwaite who has been linked to Manchester United [Give Me Sport].

Sky Sports and talkSPORT journalist Bardell wasn’t particularly positive about the deal unless he is set to become a squad rotation option for Sean Dyche.

Speaking exclusively to Goodison News, Bardell said: “He never really convinced me at Tottenham. If he was a replacement for Branthwaite, that would be a huge downgrade.

If they are just getting him in as a squad filler, someone who comes in when James Tarkowski or Branthwaite are injured, that makes more sense.

He has gone on to make over 30 appearances for the Turkish outfit [FotMob] while his new side won the league ahead of Fenerbache.

Sanchez has had a largely positive season although the quality of the division is a lot different to that of the Premier League.

There is no doubt that he would be an improvement on the squad to play as a backup option to Branthwaite and Tarkowski.

The fee involved would be crazy for a centre-back who would not be guaranteed many minutes unless one of the main pairing get injured.
