Chelsea have “dramatically reduced” their asking price for Armando Broja, the Daily Express are reporting.
The Blues had wanted an unrealistic £50m back in January, but that’s now dropped to just £30m, with Chelsea looking to sell him “as soon as possible” and the striker happy to go as he looks to get his career back on track.
Sadly for Broja, his bright start on loans with Vitesse and Southampton has been followed by a rapid fade from view too. Sitting on the bench for Chelsea, followed by a bad injury, followed by more time on the bench then a disaster loan to Fulham has really set him back.
Even at £30m it may be hard to get too much interest in the striker given he wasn’t able to make any impression at Fulham in the second half of this season.
As the Express article points out, Chelsea are keen to get at least some sales signed off before the end of the PSR accounting period for this season, which ends on the 30th June. We could yet see Broja’s price slashed again if there’s no interest at this current level and the club think it’s essential to get some money in to avoid punishment.
It will be interesting to see how this sale is affected by others – if Broja does go in the next couple of weeks for £30m, it seriously takes the pressure off the need to sell other academy players like Trevoh Chalobah and Conor Gallagher, who are otherwise very much on the chopping block as the deadline closes in.
