Crystal Palace want Pedro Goncalves

A story by Caught Offside now claims that Crystal Palace want to sign Pedro Goncalves this summer.

The Sporting CP No.8 enjoyed a remarkable 2023/24 campaign for the Portuguese giants, scoring 18 goals while also providing 17 assists in 49 appearances across all competitions.

Caught Offside believe Crystal Palace are monitoring the Portugal international’s situation in Lisbon, although there are currently no plans to bid anywhere close to Sporting CP’s €80m (£68m) asking price.

Goncalves is not believed to be pushing to leave the José Alvalade Stadium this summer, although he is described as being open to a move if Sporting CP reach an agreement with another club.

Caught Offside add that Wolves – who actually sold the man from Chaves in 2019 – and Napoli are also interested.

Oliver Glasner could sign Bruno Fernandes 2.0

As aforesaid, the 25-year-old has been likened to Fernandes.

Goncalves was signed to replace the Portugal international when he sealed a £55m move to Manchester United in January 2020.

The Birmingham Mail once published a story on the Sporting CP No.8 when highlighting how Wolves made a mistake in selling him, in which Sporting CP fans contributed.

One supporter – named Nuno Valinhas – said: “He’s doing great for us. He’s delivering far more than expected, especially his incredible goal tally. Bruno Fernandes like, or even better, like for like.”

Fernandes incredibly scored 63 goals and provided 50 assists in just 137 appearances for Sporting CP, so it truly speaks volumes for Goncalves to be described as performing “even better” in Lisbon than his fellow countryman did.

Be sure to keep an eye on this situation – however – as Crystal Palace do not sound keen to get involved unless the £68m asking price drops significantly.
