NFL futures: Which rookie passer will throw for the most yards?

Leading up to the NFL Draft, quarterbacks were the focal point of the mock drafts. At one time the first four picks were expected to be passers.

We did indeed start the draft with three QBs, and six went among the first 12 picks. As such, there are plenty of rookie passers expected to play immediately, and that’s the market we dig into today.

When we consider who we might bet on for a market like this, it’s important to consider who is actually going to play. That may sound obvious, but it’s particularly key to acknowledge when there are so few options who could actually top this rookie crop of QBs in yardage.

Michael Penix Jr. is expected to sit a year or two behind Kirk Cousins, so barring injury he won’t play. Drake Maye also seems to be trending towards a red-shirt year behind Jacoby Brissett. There’s equally no guarantee that J.J. McCarthy or Bo Nix start in Year One.

That really only leaves two viable options, which charts our path quite simply.

Caleb Williams (+110)

This is the ultimate chalk of an answer, but when you cut the group down to just Caleb Williams and Jayden Daniels, how in the world can we not back the top overall pick at +110?

Williams is walking into easily one of the best situations we can remember for a No. 1 pick. In Chicago, Williams will be throwing to two proven WRs in D.J. Moore and Keenan Allen, while also having fellow top-10 pick, WR Rome Odunze. By all accounts, Odunze could become a star. That gives him three strong options, plus TE Cole Kmet and RB D’Andre Swift.

Williams should be able to spread the ball around, and this offense could be a problem for the rest of the NFC. Health. permitting, which is always the caveat, Williams seems bound for a strong statistical season.
