Perry: Cardiff need director of football to progress

Former Cardiff captain Jason Perry has called on Vincent Tan to appoint a director of football, claiming the club will never progress without more football acumen on the board.

This comes amid a protracted stand-off between manager Erol Bulut and the owner over a contract to keep him on for next season and beyond.

Bulut helped the club improve on their league position for the first time in five seasons, finishing in 12th, but fans are none the wiser as to who will be in the dugout come the first game of next season.

The situation is quickly becoming farcical and in the Supporters’ Trust’s annual general meeting minutes, they report that Perry was strong in his views on both Tan and what the club needs to ensure sustained success going forward.

The Trust said: “Jason pulled no punches about the club’s owner Vincent Tan, saying the failure to appoint a football person as a director of football continued to hamper the progress of the club. He said the club didn’t have a plan and he argued that Cardiff City was now only a really attractive proposition manager-wise to someone that was young or desperate because of the way the club was run.

“Jason said the issue of pace desperately needed to be addressed and while he accepted that a lot of money had been wasted in the past, there was a need to give the manager funds for the new season.”

King: loan experience ‘special’

Eli King has penned a classy message to his loan club Ross County after he helped them avoid the drop to the Scottish second tier.

King cut his stay at Morecambe short halfway through the season after a good few months with the Shrimpers to follow his old boss Derek Adams to Ross County. Sign up to our Cardiff City newsletter here.

Adams would get sacked by County and ex-Cardiff man Don Cowie assumed charge, steering them to safety through the play-off route. And King, 21, played a crucial role, turning out 18 times and providing two assists during his time with the club.

He returns to Cardiff a far better player now than 12 months ago and many supporters would be disappointed if he didn’t get a crack next season.

Writing on social media, King said: “Grateful for the opportunity to play here and be a part of this club!

“Thank you to the fans, the boys, and all of the staff for making my experience special! Wishing you all the best.”
