  •  Eli King, Ollie Tanner, and Joel Bagan could benefit from loan spells to get more playing time next season.
  •  King’s midfield depth, Tanner’s lack of impact, and Bagan’s competition make loan moves sensible for their development.
  •  Kion Etete’s struggles and potential striker signings point towards a loan move for the promising 22-year-old.

After a solid season which saw them finish in 12th place, Cardiff City will be looking to improve their squad this summer in a bid to move up the Championship table.

Like every other side in the division, there will be incomings and outgoings at Cardiff in the next couple of months, and that will inevitably mean that certain players will leave on loan.

Whether it’s players with first-team experience who have fallen out of favour, or promising youngsters looking to get their first taste of senior football, the Bluebirds will be looking to use the loan system to their advantage this summer.

With that in mind, here are four players Cardiff City should loan out this summer…

21-year-old midfielder Eli King made his Bluebirds first-team debut back in 2021, and he has made seven appearances for the club, with a number of loan spells following his first-team breakthrough.

The Wales U21 international spent the first half of the 2022/23 season on loan at Crewe Alexandra, before spending the 2023/24 season on loan with Morecambe and Ross County respectively.

King has performed well during each of his loan spells, but given Cardiff’s depth in midfield, he’ll likely struggle for minutes at the Cardiff City Stadium next season.

With a contract at the club until 2026, he’s clearly well thought of, and a full season on loan in League One could stand him in good stead ahead of a potential breakthrough the following season.

Perhaps a surprising name on this list, Ollie Tanner could do with a loan next season to play regular football away from the Cardiff City Stadium.

Signed from non-league Lewes in the summer of 2022, Tanner spent time on loan with York City during the 2022/23 season, but flattered to deceive, leading to some supporters being surprised when he was given the chance by Erol Bulut ahead of the 2023/24 season.
