Fulham star João Palhinha today had a word with the Portuguese media at the national team camp.
Even though the main subject was the friendly against Finland and the preparation for the Euros, the rumours about the manager’s future were once again mentioned.
As reported by A Bola, Palhinha was asked whether the continental tournament could be a showcase for him to move elsewhere. But he didn’t want to feed that story.
“The work I’m doing at Fulham shows what I’m capable of. I see this Euros as another test in which I want to show my worth, I know what I’m capable of and being here, in the national team and at the Euros is a source of pride for me and my family.”
It’s important to note that clubs are required to give players who have just returned from the tournament a period of rest before they’re thrust back into the action.
France, who face the USA, Guinea and New Zealand in their group, are one of the favourites to win the competition. which features 16 teams including Argentina and Spain. As well as the French capital, six other cities will host games, including the likes of Bordeaux, Marseille and Nice
It remains to be seen where this development puts off United or the 20-time English champions will still maintain their pursuit of the youngster.
Palhinha came close to leaving Fulham during negotiations with Bayern Munich not long ago, but with the change of management at the Bundesliga side, there haven’t been strong rumours about a new attempt to land the midfielder.
The 28-year-old’s quality continues to draw big attention from European giants, though, and we shall see if any other clubs will move for him this summer.
Portugal have a strong team for the Euros and that could certainly help Palhinha to show his skills, but that doesn’t seem to be something on his mind ahead of the tournament
