NFC East Keeps Winning, Pressuring Howie Roseman to Keep His Midas Touch - Sports Illustrated Philadelphia Eagles News, Analysis and More
The Philadelphia Eagles collapsed down the stretch of last season after winning 10 of their first 11 games, but they seem to have a new hope for the 2024 campaign.

They made a big splash in free agency by adding star running back Saquon Barkley, and he is expected to give them a new dimension to their offensive attack.

Philly also has a new offensive coordinator in Kellen Moore, and Brian Baldinger of NFL Network feels Philly’s offense will be “vastly improved.”

Although Barkley has been injury-prone since entering the NFL in 2018, he has been a game-changing back, and last year, he ran for 962 yards and six touchdowns as a member of the New York Giants.

He will give Philly a deadly ground-game tandem along with quarterback Jalen Hurts, who collected 605 yards and 15 touchdowns on the ground in 2023.

The team also has wide receivers A.J. Brown and DeVonta Smith, both of whom just got contract extensions and make up one of the game’s best wideout tandems.

However, the biggest reason Philly closed the 2023 season so poorly was their defense.

In 2022, when they went to the Super Bowl, they had one of the NFL’s stingiest defenses, but last season, they ranked just 26th in total yards allowed and 30th in points given up.

Two-time Pro Bowl linebacker Haason Reddick was traded to the New York Jets, but the Eagles did bring in Bryce Huff, who had 10.0 sacks and 21 quarterback hits last year.

In addition, they drafted two promising cornerbacks this year in Quinyon Mitchell and Cooper DeJean in order to shore up their secondary.
