Shrewsbury forward a ‘Championship player’ as fans await contract news
Shrewsbury Town legend Steve Cross believes Dan Udoh has merited his step up this summer after branding the striker a Championship player.
Chesterfield want move for Shrewsbury Town captain
Chesterfield are keen on a move for Shrewsbury Town defender Chey Dunkley, according to a report by the Shropshire Star.
Chesterfield want to lure the centre-back down to League Two following their promotion from the National League along with Bromley. He worked under their boss Paul Cook at Wigan Athletic.
Dunkley, 32, is out of contract at Shrewsbury Town at the end of the month and although he has been offered an extension by the League One outfit, he is yet to put pen-to-paper. Therefore, he is due to become a free agent as things stand.
As per the Shropshire Star, the Spirerites are interested in snapping him up for nothing to bolster their defensive department as they prepare for life back in the Football League.
They have already brought in Lewis Gordon, Tim Akinola, Kane Drummond and experienced striker Paddy Madden over recent times to freshen up their squad.
Chesterfield want Shrewsbury Town skipper
Chesterfield could see Dunkley as someone to add more experience to their backline.
He is a player who Cook knows already and trusts and the fact he is about to become available for nothing makes this one a no-brainer.
The former England C international rose up through the academy ranks at Crewe Alexandra before spells in non-league at Hednesford Town and Kidderminster Harriers.
Oxford United then snapped him up in 2014 and he went on to play 97 games for the U’s in all competitions, finding the net on seven occasions from the back.
Dunkley secured a switch to Wigan Athletic and helped them gain promotion to the Championship in his first year there under Cook.
