A new era is underway at Norwich City following the appointment of Johannes Hoff Thorup as head coach.
The Canaries made the decision to sack David Wagner last month after their 4-0 defeat at Leeds United in the play-off semi-final second leg, and Thorup has been announced as his replacement.
Will Still, Pascal Jansen and Steve Cooper had all been linked with the job after Wagner’s exit, but Norwich opted for Thorup, and the 35-year-old leaves his role at Danish side FC Nordsjaelland to take over at Carrow Road.
Thorup had spells as an academy coach and assistant manager at Nordsjaelland before taking over as manager in January 2023, and he led them to a fourth-placed finish in the Danish Superliga this season, but they were unable to secure European football.
It could be a busy summer for the Canaries, and Thorup has already made his first signing, with defender Jose Cordoba arriving from Bulgarian outfit Levski Sofia.
There are likely to be plenty more new arrivals over the coming months, but Norwich could face a battle to hold on to key players such as Gabriel Sara, Jonathan Rowe and Josh Sargent, while Thorup will also have a big decision to make over the future of Adam Idah, who spent the second half of the season on loan at Celtic.
The striker’s goals were crucial in helping the Hoops retain the Scottish Premiership title and his popularity among supporters increased further when he scored a 90th-minute winner in the Scottish Cup final against Rangers at Hampden Park last month.
