Spanish coach José Riveiro has Orlando Pirates flowing like a river in his maiden season

THE BENEFITS OF RELEASING TOP EARNERS ARE THREEFOLD

Not only does this free up space on the wage bill to negotiate improved terms for existing players, but it also makes funds available for transfers. Another underrated upside of releasing top earners over the age of 30 is that there’s less of a discrepancy between the youngsters coming through and the first XI in terms of their salaries. This can only be good for squad harmony and chemistry.

Khune and Dolly will no longer Chiefs players next season unless something drastic happens between now and the end of June. The fact that they’re the top two earners at the club, despite being more or less fringe players for the last two seasons, is a mistake the board must take a close look at and never repeat. Even Zitha Kwinika, a player who’s done well to plug gaps when others were injured, shouldn’t be close to the top of this list. If all three leave, which is rumoured to be the case, Chiefs will save R2.25 million a month on salaries alone. That’s a lot of dough.

FAR Rabat boss Nasreddine Nabi has reiterated his desire to ‘put on a good show’ for the supporters to enjoy and shared the secret to his team’s productivity in front of goal this term. They’ve scored 63 times in 29 matches, 14 more than any other side in the division. This revelation will be particularly pleasing for Kaizer Chiefs fans, who always demand entertaining, attack-minded football. The Glamour Boys only scored 25 times in 30 DStv Prem matches in 2023-2024.

When quizzed on FAR’s scoring exploits back in March, he cited two key reasons:

“The first is that we have high-calibre strikers and midfielders who can give the team a scoring boost.

“Sometimes I even take risks at the expense of the defence, even if that costs me goals because I am looking for scoring, and these goals are what increase the value of matches and the team as a whole, and the display aspect is also important in football,” he concluded.
