The Canaries have plenty more work to do in the summer transfer window

Norwich City completed their first summer transfer window signing earlier this week.

That came with the addition of centre-back Jose Cordoba, who joined on a permanent deal from Bulgarian side Levski Sofia.

In doing so, the 23-year-old became the Canaries’ first signing since Johannes Hoff Thorup was appointed to replace David Wagner as the club’s manager.

That of course, came after the German was sacked in the wake of Norwich’s play-off semi-final defeat to Leeds United last month, which ensures they will be spending next season in the Championship.

Even with the signing of Cordoba, there is still more work that the club will have to do in the window this summer if they are to compete for promotion again in the 2024/25 campaign.

They may also want to continue to build on the feelgood factor they have developed by getting Cordoba in early, meaning some more moves in the near future may well be targeted.

With that in mind, we’ve taken a look at the next signing Norwich City should be looking to make as quickly as possible, and two more they could follow it up with.

Martin Frese

An immediate priority for Norwich City right now surely has to be the addition of a new left-back.

Both Sam McCallum and Dimitrios Giannoulis have left the club already this summer after their contracts expired, meaning they now have no senior options in that position.

They will therefore need depth on the left side of defence and should be looking to push through a deal to sign Nordsjaelland’s Martin Frese in order to start to secure some of the depth they need in that position.

The 26-year-old has already been linked with a move to Norwich and is set to be available on a free transfer this summer when he will leave Nordsjaelland.

It would be encouraging to see another link followed up early in the window, and on a free transfer, this could be a good deal financially too.

Frese also played under Thorup at Nordsjaelland previously, so reuniting the pair could be an effective move for the Canaries to make.

Chris Willock

Another player Norwich have already been linked with this summer who they should be working hard to bring in quickly is Chris Willock.

The Canaries do not have a great amount of depth in their attacking midfield areas and could lose options there this summer. Jonathan Rowe is surely going to attract interest after an excellent campaign and there could be pressure on Norwich to sell as he enters the last year of his contract.

Bringing Willock in could help to fill that void he could be a good option to do that with. The 26-year-old has plenty of Championship experience, and the ability to provide an attacking spark that would make him an asset going forward.
