Liam Scales outlines why he would love to have ‘outstanding’ Adam Idah back at Celtic
Celtic defender Liam Scales is currently enjoying the international break and will be hoping to make his mark before returning to club duties in the next few weeks.
The 25-year-old is out in Aveiro as the Republic of Ireland prepare to take on Portugal tonight. Should Scales be given a start by John O’Shea, he will be keen to build on his strong display against Hungary last Tuesday.
Mikey Johnston is also in their squad for the clash at Estadio Municipal de Aveiro; meanwhile, Adam Idah, fresh from enjoying a stunning loan spell over the second half of 2023/24 is in attendance as the Bhoys remain keen on striking a permanent deal for the frontman, who has returned to Norwich City.
Brendan Rodgers has signalled his intention to swoop for his services, which isn’t surprising following his nine goals and two assists in 19 appearances across the campaign [Transfermarkt].
Nevertheless, the permutations of a deal could be difficult for Celtic to structure. Norwich have him under contract until 2028, so it remains to be seen if an agreement can be found.
Liam Scales would love to have Adam Idah back at Celtic
It won’t come as a massive surprise, but having witnessed his exploits from a front-row seat, Idah’s international teammate Scales would love to see him back at Parkhead next season.
Outlining why, he told The Daily Record: “100% I want him to stay. Every Celtic fan and everyone at the club would love to have him back. He was outstanding, but a lot of things have to go right for that to happen, but hopefully it will.”
He then added when asked about those who doubted his credentials as a Celtic striker upon arrival: “That’s the case with Celtic fans a lot of the time; it doesn’t reflect on Adam at all. They have high standards, and I don’t think it bothered Adam.
“He’s just that sort of character that if it goes well and he starts like he did, he will be flying. It’s a testament to his character that he was able to do that and go and have the half season he did. He played a massive part in us winning the league and then scoring the winner in the Cup final and I’m delighted for him.”
