Orlando Pirates to snap up a target Kaizer Chiefs walked away from?

PIRATES TO REINFORCE THEIR GOALKEEPING DEPARTMENT

According to SoccerLaduma, Orlando Pirates are prioritising a move for Nigeria and Chippa United goalkeeper Stanlew Nwabali. Failing this, The Buccaneers will fall back on a potential move for AmaZulu and Bafana Bafana star Veli Mothwa. 2017 Afcon winner with Cameroon, Fabrice Ondoa, is also a target. Nwabali’s reported R30 Million evaluation by Chippa scared Kaizer Chiefs off, but Pirates are still keen at that price point. The 28-year-old goalkeeper starred for Nigeria at Afcon 2023, helping them to the final where they lost to hosts Ivory Coast. At the other end of the pitch, Orlando Pirates have released striker . The 33-year-old is being heavily linked with a return to his former club Cape Town City.

BUCS SENT TWO GOALKEEPERS PACKING

The club has released Siyabonga Mpontshane and Richard Ofori. Sipho Chaine is the number 1, while Melusi Buthelezi understudied him throughout the campaign. Here’s the official club statement:

“As the football season draws to a close, we not only mark the end of our campaign but also bid farewell to some of our esteemed players,”

“Orlando Pirates can confirm that Richard Ofori, Siyabonga Mpontshane, Thabang Monare and Kermit Erasmus will be leaving us when their respective contracts come to an end on June 30,”

“It is with a deep sense of gratitude that we reflect on the contributions of these players during their time with us.”

BROOS WARNS MOFOKENG

The hype train around 19-year-old Relebohile Mofokeng has gone into overdrive this week after his winning goal in the Nedbank Cup final against Sundowns. The teenager is also set for his Bafana Bafana debut against Nigeria next weekend, but national team coach Hugo Broos has urged calm.

“You see what happened with Mailula? He came into Toronto, and there were two former Italian internationals, and what are you going to do with a little guy from South Africa there? He did play one game two months ago and the rest he’s on the bench. What is he learning there? I hope the agent of Mofokeng is cleaver more than the one of Mailula.” said Broos as per FARPost.

Mofokeng hopes to feature for Bafana Bafana against Zimbabwe on Tuesday 11 June. The match is live on SABC 2.
