Sory Kaba was strongly linked with a move to Blues last summer along with Cardiff City Watford. National journalists claimed Birmingham had agreed a fee but he ended up heading to UD Las Palmas.

The La Liga side signed Kaba from Danish outfit FC Midtjylland for a fee believed to be over €2 million. His move to Spain hasn’t gone to plan however with the striker finding the back of the net just once in 17 league appearances.

As a result, according to Spanish news outlet Canarias 7, Kaba has been told he can leave either on a permanent basis or on loan. Kaba is only one year into a four-year deal and so Las Palmas would be hoping to recoup some of the fee that they paid for him last summer.

The 21-time Guinea international has experience of playing in England after a loan spell with Cardiff City in the 2022/23 season. He scored eight times in 17 games for the Bluebirds as he helped them to survival.

There is nothing concrete to suggest that Birmingham could go back in for Kaba with Chris Davies potentially having his own ideas on a transfer shortlist. Craig Gardner will play a key role as technical director though and Kaba might be a player of interest.

Birmingham this week were linked with an ambitious swoop for Aberdeen’s Bojan Miovski. A report from Alan Nixon claimed Birmingham were willing to pay £7m to land the Macedonian forward with Bologna and Feyenoord also keen.

Kaba would represent a cost-effective option to Miovski and would be a sound option to lead the front line next season. Birmingham are hoping to tie Lukas Jutkiewicz down to a new contract as they look to bolster their attack for next season.
