Birmingham City & Sunderland Set To Miss Out On £4 Million Transfer Target
Birmingham City and Sunderland will likely miss out on transfer target Scott Twine this summer as the attacking midfielder is closing in on a return to Bristol City, according to the latest reports.
Twine moved to Burnley from MK Dons back in the summer of 2022 following an excellent spell with the latter. The Clarets reportedly paid a sum of £4 million for the Englishman’s services. However, he never truly settled into life in Lancashire, making merely 18 appearances in all competitions across the 2022/23 campaign as Burnley were promoted back to the Premier League.
Upon the club’s return to the top-flight, Twine was sent out on loan to Hull City where he received regular minutes under Liam Rosenior before being recalled by Burnley back in January. Nevertheless, the board decided to loan him out once more, this time to Bristol City.
Burnley look set to cash in on Twine this summer after merely two years despite dropping down to the Championship. It was revealed by BristolLive that the Robins are the favourite to secure his signature permanently after a successful loan stint at Ashton Gate and that the 24-year-old is currently using the club’s High-Performance Training Ground to prepare for the season ahead.

Nevertheless, Birmingham City had been linked with a move for Twine this summer as Chris Davies looks to take the West Midlands outfit out of League One at the first time of asking while second-tier side Sunderland had also reportedly added Twine to their list of targets over the coming months, but Bristol City now look set to come out on top.
Despite a relatively underwhelming stint at Turf Moor, Burnley will likely be looking to recoup most of the money that they spent on Twine two years ago which may rule Birmingham City out of a possible deal anyway given the club can’t afford to part with £3-4 million after being relegated to League One.
However, Sunderland certainly have enough to entice Twine to the Stadium of Light, although it looks as though the playmaker is keen to return to Bristol City after enjoying his spell with the Robins in the second half of last season.
