Alasdair Gold says club are confident of keeping 21-year-old Spurs target

Football.London’s Alasdair Gold has confirmed that Tottenham are indeed keen on landing Nico Williams this summer but made it clear that the Lilywhites have their work cut out if they want to complete the deal.

He said that Williams‘ name is also on Tottenham’s list but pointed out that the Athletic Club Bilbao star is also wanted by several big sides around Europe.

The journalist explained that even though there is a £46.5m release clause in the 21-year-old’s contract, the deal would not be straightforward to complete as the player has not shown a willingness to leave San Mames.

Finally, Gold suggested that as things stand, Athletic Club are not worried about losing their academy graduate this summer.

Williams is undoubtedly the most exciting name among the various wingers mooted as targets for Spurs over recent months but a deal for the Spain international was always going to be quite difficult to do, especially on the back of the impressive season he has just had.
