Oxford United man wanted back by loan club as well as Cardiff City defender
Sligo Rovers want to keep hold of Oxford United goalkeeper Ed McGinty and Cardiff City defender Ollie Denham, as detailed in a report by The Irish Mirror.
The Championship pair have been on loan with the League of Ireland side over recent times.
Both are due to return to their parent clubs soon with their respective futures up in the air.
In this latest update regarding McGinty in particular, Sligo boss John Russell has said, as per The Irish Mirror: “Ed has a year left on his contract with Oxford and there’s plenty of interest in him. We’re one of a number of clubs interested in him.
“There are two options here – extend the loan, or you buy the player. There’s lots of stuff going on in the background and we just have to put our best foot forward.
“I know Ed is happy here and has done really well for us, but I also know he has ambitions to play at the highest level.”
Oxford United man wanted
Oxford United have a decision to make on the future of McGinty this summer. They have recently snapped up Jamie Cumming on a permanent basis from Chelsea which could push him down the pecking order more.
The 24-year-old was allowed to leave on a temporary basis back in January when Sligo Rovers ame calling to get some game time under his belt.
The former Republic of Ireland youth international is under contract with Des Buckingham’s side until June 2025 meaning he still has over 12 months left on his deal.
He moved over to England in 2022 from Sligo Rovers and has since made 10 appearances for the U’s in all competitions.
The Glasgow-born man has been used as back-up since his switch to the Football League, hence why he was given the green light to move back to The Showgrounds to get some game time this past winter.
