Everton facing further punishment as Premier League clubs post more losses | SportBusiness

Paris Saint-Germain keen on Everton midfielder Amadou Onana

Ligue 1 champions Paris Saint-Germain want to sign Everton midfielder Amadou Onana this summer in a bid to strengthen their squad ahead of next season, according to French outlet Foot Mercato.

The French giants initially had Benfica star Joao Neves on their radar, but his €100 million release clause has put them off, which has seen them shift attention to the Everton star as around €60m can get a deal for him done.

The Toffees are in the race against time to balance the books and avoid breaching the Premier League Profitability and Sustainability Rules having been punished twice last term, and cashing in on Onana could be pertinent despite already agreeing to sell Ben Godfrey to Atalanta.

Manchester United also had the Belgium international on their radar for a while but appear to have moved on to other targets, while Barcelona are still not financially buoyant to make a concrete move for the 22-year-old despite reaching out to his representatives in January.

PSG are now in a prime position to recruit the services of the Everton star but negotiations will likely have to wait until the end of Belgium’s campaign at the ongoing European Championship.

Onana featured in all of the three group games and will be looking forward to putting in another impressive display against France in the round of 16 on Monday.

PSG will be watching the game with keen interest, but his performances over the last two seasons in the Premier League have impressed them.

The Everton midfielder is ambidextrous, physically impressive and very versatile, and his ability to excel in a box-to-box role has wowed many at Euro 2024.

Onana could be on his way back to France after joining the Merseyside club from Lille in 2024, and the Parc des Princes club could be ready to make a concrete move in the coming days and weeks.
