Former QPR and Portsmouth star ‘undergoing medical’ at Sheffield Wednesday after AFC Bournemouth exit
Owen Bevan signs new four-year contract at AFC Bournemouth
DEFENDER Owen Bevan says playing “in the Premier League week in, week out” for Cherries is his “end goal” after penning a new four-year contract with the club.
The highly-rated centre-back featured last pre-season under Andoni Iraola, before heading out on loan to Cheltenham Town.
There Bevan impressed, making 14 appearances for the League One club, before being recalled and sent into the Scottish Premiership with Hibernian.
However, injury prevented the 20-year-old from featuring for the Edinburgh outfit, his loan deal cut short.
But now Bevan is back and hoping to get another chance to impress this summer, having penned a deal until the summer of 2028.
“The club have always supported me,” the 20-year-old told afcbTV.
“When I’ve been out on loan and done well, they’ve always rewarded me with a new contract.
“It shows a lot of faith in me. I think I can use that and push on again.
“I’ve been back training over the off-season. I’m pretty much ready to go in pre-season now and looking forward to kicking on again next season.
“I stayed a few extra weeks at the end of last season and have been in a week now. Hopefully I’ll hit the ground running on the first day of pre-season.”
He added: “I did the injury at Cheltenham, then was due to go to Hibs.
“A couple of days before, I reinjured the same quad. Hibs would’ve been a great move.
“But I can kick on again now because I’m feeling fit and ready to go.”
Bevan, who has played twice for Cherries’ first team having progressed up through the academy, has also previously had loan spells at Truro City and Yeovil Town.
Discussing his future plans, the Wales under-21 international said: “Hopefully I can get some minutes here in pre-season, see what happens and go from there.
“I want to play many years at Bournemouth, play in the Premier League and have lots of success here.
“Short-term for me is just to get out and play some games, have an injury-free season. See if I can get 40 games under my belt.
“I think as a young centre-back, that’s really important.
“Then long-term, come back and play here in the Premier League, week in, week out.
