Everton to accept record-breaking Jarrad Branthwaite bid as Goodison Park transfer news emerges

There have been suggestions that the Toffees could accept a cut-price deal for the centre back this summer but these are “wide of the mark”.

Lee Connor has now reported (31 May) that Everton would want Branthwaite to become “the most expensive English defender of all time”.

Harry Maguire currently holds the record at £80m after a move to Manchester United in 2019 so a deal above that amount would have to be tabled.

It will be music to fans’ ears to hear that Farhad Moshiri isn’t going to just accept any old bid for the 21-year-old which had been feared.

Given the troubles that the club have had with finances and PSR, clubs could try and take advantage of the struggles.

It now appears that Sean Dyche’s side isn’t going to easily be ripped apart as they look for market value for their star names.

With that being said, if a rival comes in and offers a fee like £80m for Branthwaite, it may be too good for Moshiri to refuse this summer.

Although it would be frustrating to lose their top players, these would certainly allow for some reinvestment in the club in the transfer window.

It is unclear whether or not a Premier League outfit will come in for Branthwaite given the price tag that the Toffees have now set.

In other Everton news, an update has emerged on the club’s pursuit to sign a Chelsea attacker who’s set to leave this summer.

La Liga to Premier League this summer?

Everton’s interest in Omar Alderete is understandable. The Toffees have been scouring the market for a centre-back heading into the summer transfer window amid uncertainties surrounding the long-term future of Jarrad Branthwaite. With Manchester United keen on signing the Englishman, Everton must identify a potential replacement.

Jacob Greaves was a target for Everton before they lost to Ipswich Town in the chase. Alderete has thus emerged as an option worth considering for the Merseyside club. However, Everton will face stiff competition from Sevilla in the race to sign the 27-year-old from La Liga club Getafe.

The prospect of embarking on an adventure in the Premier League might be attractive. However, it will be interesting to see how much Getafe will demand to part ways with the Paraguayan international after signing him for only €4 million last summer.
