Coventry City and Leamington FC to pay special tribute to hit-and-run victim Keaton Slater
Fans will remember 12-year-old Keaton Slater at Your Co-Op Community Stadium on Saturday
A much-loved young boy who died in a Coventry hit-and-run will be remembered when the Sky Blues take on Leamington FC this Saturday (July 13). Fans will be able to pay their respects to 12-year-old Keaton Slater at Your Co-Op Community Stadium.
Young Keaton, who went to Cardinal Newman Catholic School, will be remembered at a pre-season friendly between Coventry City XI and Leamington FC. Organisers said that both sets of fans, players, and staff will come together to remember the ‘fun-loving’ youngster who died after being struck by a BMW on Radford Road.
Parents Louise and Clint, as well as his brothers Kai and Keanu, will lead the players onto the pitch before Your Co-Op Community Stadium falls silent for a minute in memory of Keaton. Sponsors HB&O will be providing refreshments for the family as they watch the game, which kicks off at 3pm.
Fans are encouraged to make a donation when they enter the turnstiles in aid of a fundraiser set up to support the family of Keaton. In the weeks since his tragic passing, just under £60,000 has been raised on JustGiving.
A spokesman for Leamington FC said: “When Leamington host Coventry City XI, both sets of fans, players, and staff will come together to remember 12-year-old Keaton Slater, who was tragically killed in a hit-and-run in Coventry in June.
“When fans enter the turnstiles, there will be a collection in aid of the fundraiser set up for the family of Keaton, and any donations will be massively appreciated. Please join us and show your support for both the Slater family and the wider Coventry City and football family.”
