The F Jones Initiative award scheme recognises those who contribute most to the Wrexham community and were originally established by Wrexham Lager and F Jones Food Service.

And the latest to be honoured with the award is Cora Bishop, who is an Army Cadet at Hightown Barracks.

The 12-year-old, who has Downs Syndrome, has been nominated for ‘always having a massive smile on her face’ and also for the ‘way she makes amazing friends’.

The F Jones Initiative team said: “Cora’s confidence and self-esteem has grown, and she has challenged herself to take on responsibilities and step outside her comfort zone. She has gained a sense of self-sufficiency that transcends her disability.

“This newfound independence has not only empowered her but has also provided her with essential life skills, that will serve her well in the future.”

They added: “Her presence has been a benefit to the other cadets, as many would not have had the chance to interact and support someone with Downs Syndrome previously.

“Cora has found a sense of purpose and belonging being a cadet, it has empowered her to overcome challenges, build self confidence and embrace her unique abilities.

“Although she will always have challenges, Cora is no longer defined by her disability but her limitless potential. Well done Cora, keep smiling!”

Cora’s mum Sheryl said: “Witnessing the transformative journey of my daughter, who has Downs Syndrome, through her participation in the Army Cadets program in Wrexham, has been nothing short of remarkable.

Since 2008, the stadium has only had three stands, as the Kop End was deemed unsafe by the authorities due to its decaying infrastructure. As a result, rebuilding this stand to match the other three sides of the Racecourse has been one of their main objectives. Plans for the Kop End were announced in June 2022, with a planning application submitted to the local council.
