Leeds United now set to sell ‘incredible’ player for a £3.5m profit as European club make move
Both members of Victor Orta’s loan army, the duo have reunited at La Liga side Real Betis for a combined fee of less than £8m. Charlie Cresswell has been sold to Toulouse, and Kris Klaesson to Polish side Rakow.
Sam Greenwood, Darko Gyabi, Jack Harrison and Sonny Perkins have all gone on loan with Perkins scoring in his first pre-season outing for League One side Leyton Orient, a club he played for until the age of 14.
Jamie Shackleton has gone to Sheffield United on a free, and Lew Bate to Stockport County. Liam Cooper, Ian Poveda and Cody Drameh are all free agents after their contracts expired at the end of last month.
But one player Leeds fans might not have expected to lose is one that only joined a year ago. Bought for £5m, Glen Kamara has starred for Leeds in midfield but he is set to join French side Rennes for £8.5m.
Of course, the addition of Joe Rothwell on loan is a solid signing but Leeds needed more in the middle of the park anyway. Rothwell was expected to provide depth but as things stand, he is starting for Leeds.
If Ethan Ampadu is to remain in defence, Leeds are left with only Ilia Gruev and rookie Charlie Crew in the middle. The Wales talent is yet to make his senior debut for Daniel Farke’s side despite being involved.
Described as “incredible” by Jermaine Beckford, Kamara leaves a big hole as the club’s no.6 and The 49ers now have to get their skates on and make a few signings ahead of the opener against Portsmouth.
