Premier League Cup winner Max Dickov comes into his third season with Brentford B as one of the most experienced players in the squad and will be a leader on the pitch this season.
Brentford slash Ivan Toney asking price by £30 million as they grow desperate to sell
This is according to The Sun, who claim that “Arsenal, Chelsea and Manchester United have all made it clear to Brentford that they have no plans to bid for in the England striker” and that this “leaves Tottenham and West Ham as his most likely suitors.”
For their part, Spurs want to sell Richarlison before they can move for anyone else and both they and the Hammers are also interested in Lille’s Jonathan David, the report claims.
The Bees were confident of a bidding war for Toney this summer and have already bought his replacement, Igor Thiago from Club Brugge.
However, the dramatic recession in transfer prices has led to potential buyers such as United seeking cheaper options elsewhere – in the Red Devils’ case, Joshua Zirkzee – while others have ruled him out for other reasons.
Now Brentford have a problem because Toney only has a year left on his contract, so they are now becoming desperate to sell him to avoid losing him for free in 12 months’ time.
The Sun report that they are now looking at offers around £50 million for the 28 year old, instead of the £80 million they had set their sights on.
Whether this bargain price lures United back into the auction remains to be seen.
There have been mixed reports about whether they would also want Toney having bought Zirkzee.
Zirkzee provides cover for Rasmus Hojlund, but an injury to either one would leave United in the same boat as last season, when Anthony Martial’s absence meant Hojlund had to play virtually every match.
