Peterborough United boss Darren Ferguson has described the situation regarding Preston North End-linked Harrison Burrows as ‘frustrating’.
Last season’s League One Player of the Year has been the subject of transfer speculation all summer – and the London Road club expect to lose him in this transfer window. But, the 22-year-old remains at Posh for now.
Burrows is in the final year of his contract, with PNE having seen a bid rejected for the left back earlier this month. Sheffield United have been strongly linked, while Portsmouth and Birmingham City have also been credited with interest.
There were reports that Sheffield United had agreed a fee for Burrows earlier this summer, and that he was set to undergo a medical. The Blades remain keen, but any potential move to Bramall Lane is said to be reliant on the club’s takeover going through.
Burrows came through the Posh academy and has been a regular for the last three seasons, in the first team. Peterborough chairman Darragh MacAnthony has strongly defended the club’s valuation of Burrows – who appears to be out of PNE’s price range as things stand. Last season, he assisted 15 goals in League One and scored 12 goals in all competitions.
On the matter, ex-PNE boss Ferguson said: “The situation with Harrison is frustrating for him and me. We are trying to protect him and the club as he is a valuable asset. He wanted to play at Spalding, but I felt it was too much of a risk. He will play on Saturday if nothing happens though, as he needs to build his work up. And at the moment, nothing is happening.”
