West Ham United close to £37m transfer for Aston Villa star Jhon Duran
West Ham United are close to sealing a £37million deal for Aston Villa striker Jhon Duran, according to AreaNapoli.
Writing on their website (18 July), the Italian news outlet report that the Colombia striker was offered to Milan and wanted by Napoli in recent months but he’s now close to a move to the London Stadium.
Duran was identified as Julen Lopetegui’s top target for the striker position, and he now looks set to get his man as the clubs close in on a deal.
West Ham to sign Jhon Duran
The attacking department in east London is in desperate need of some rejuvenation and new faces, and Duran could be the perfect remedy for the squad.
The Colombia star, who featured for his nation during the 2024 Copa America where they reached the final, showed glimpses of his quality last season while with Aston Villa but found himself in the shadows behind Ollie Watkins.
The player has made it clear that he wants to play more regularly [HITC, 10 July] than he did in 2023/24, and West Ham could be the perfect place for that to happen.
He has got fantastic physical and technical attributes and at just 21-years-old, the room for growth is absolutely huge too.
With Michail Antonio wanted by Saudi and MLS clubs [Athletic, 15 May] and Danny Ings’ future looking bleak, there is clearly a gap for him to step into and become the main man.
With a deal close to being agreed according to reports, it looks as though Lopetegui is on the verge of getting his man.
In other West Ham news, the club are preparing a brand new £15m bid for a defender transfer.
