Bear Club signs new lease after iconic jazz venue in Luton was saved from closure
The Bear Club was saved from closure after the property arm of Luton Town FC bought the building in Guildford Street in May.
Uncertainty about the Bear Club’s future had circulated for months after the freeholders of the Mill Yard site announced their decision to sell the venue.
The Luton News reported the building’s new owners were “keen to keep” the venue open – and 2020 Developments, the property division of Luton Town FC, was revealed as the buyer of the historic building bringing an end to the uncertainty.
The 24-year-old headed to Kenilworth Road back in the summer of 2022, and has played a part in the club’s pre-season programme for the second year running, heading out to Slovenia where he featured in both friendly matches against Rukh Lviv and Goztepe. However, he is yet to figure in a first team game for Luton in his almost two years in Bedfordshire, and following a productive loan spell at League One Barnsley last term when he scored 15 goals in 45 matches, McAtee’s stock is currently high.
It means Luton face a decision on the future of the former Grimsby, Solihull Moors and Scunthorpe front man, who faces a battle on his hands to leapfrog players such as Carlton Morris, Elijah Adebayo and Cauley Woodrow into the Hatters’ starting line-up, with Jacob Brown on the mend from his knee injury and Joe Taylor also back in the reckoning after his impressive loan stint with both Colchester and Lincoln City.
Luton Town – Give The Lad His Chance Urge The Hatters Support
Crystal Palace midfielder David Ozoh is expected to join Championship side Derby County on loan this summer as the Rams appear to have edged Plymouth Argyle and Luton Town to the 19-year-old’s signature. As reported by the South London Press, Ozoh is
nearing a loan move to Derby for the 2024/25 campaign. The midfielder will join the newly promoted side, who won automatic promotion from League One last season after finishing second in the third tier.
However, the move means that interested Plymouth and Luton will miss out on signing the teenager this summer. The Championship duo were reportedly eager to sign the highly-rated Palace player and both clubs showed interest earlier in July, with the Hatters looking to strike a permanent deal to land Ozoh.
However, Derby are in pole position to make Ozoh their sixth signing of the summer. The Midlands club have already added central midfielders Ben Osborn, Kenzo Goudmijn and Ebou Adams to their ranks.
