Bristol City injury latest after key duo missed Newport County and Aldershot Town friendlies
Bristol City hope to have both Zak Vyner and Harry Cornick back involved for their friendlies against Cheltenham Town and Exeter City on Friday and Saturday after the pair were absent from the Robins’ matches against Newport County and Aldershot Town on Tuesday.
Two separate squads were given their first run outs of pre-season earlier this week, both winning 2-0. Second half goals from Nahki Wells and new arrival Sinclair Armstrong secured victory over Newport at the HPC before Sam Bell and Cam Pring were on the scoresheet away at National League outfit Aldershot in the evening.
However, it was noticed that, at least from the pool of last season’s first-team regulars, that both Vyner and Cornick were missing from both squads. According to Chris Hogg though, there’s nothing to be concerned about.
Both were regulars throughout last campaign, making 41 and 45 appearances across all competitions respectively. Although, despite featuring in more games, Cornick earned just nine starts, two of which coming in the League Cup, while Vyner was a constant fixture when available, starting 35 league matches.
A ligament injury between September and October kept the defender out for the final seven league games of Nigel Pearson’s reign while he also missed three of the final four matches of the campaign, coming on as a substitute in the final day defeat at Stoke City.
New signing Johnly Yfeko wasted no time in seeing what Exeter City are all about when the Grecians showed strong interest in his services. The 21-year-old has joined the League One club on a season-long loan from Scottish Premier League giants Rangers in a deal that includes an option for the Grecians to buy.
Yfeko has just one senior appearance to his name for the Gers, but has been a regular in their B team. Now, he is keen to kick on with his career after agreeing to move to the Grecians.
