Newcastle United get their pre-season friendly campaign underway this afternoon with a 2pm kick off at the MKM Stadium in Hull.

While Eddie Howe has far from a full-strength squad available to him thanks to injuries and some players still to return from their summer breaks, the gaffer has managed to put out a relatively strong starting XI to take on the Tigers.

It’s pretty tricky to ascertain what kind of system Howe is deploying and who is playing where, especially given that there are four full-backs named on the team sheet.

Lewis Hall, Jamal Lewis, Tino Livramento and Emil Krafth are all starting along with captain Dan Burn, but we highly doubt we’re looking at a back five.

There’s every possibility that either Livramento or Lewis are playing further up field, but with Harvey Barnes starting, we suspect it would be Livramento filling in on the right wing, except Jacob Murphy also starts.

Joelinton is joined by Jamie Miley in the middle with with Alexander Isak, our only fit striker up top.

The team sheets are out ahead of Newcastle’s pre-season friendly at Hull City, where Eddie Howe’s Mags take on the Tigers in a 2pm kick-off at the MKM Stadium.

Isak leads the line and is joined in attack by Murphy and Barnes, with Joelinton partnered in midfield by Hall and Jamie Miley; Lewis’ older brother. It’s also great to see Pope back in goal and Livramento fit enough to start, while Jamal Lewis also makes a rare appearance at left-back.

New signings Vlachoimos and Ruddy make the bench along with Kuol, Sanusi and a host of U21 talents, but Willock, Longstaff and Kelly have remained on Tyneside to do additional training. Schar and Almiron only just returned to training on Friday and neither feature, with Guimaraes, Gordon and Trippier yet to report back from extended breaks.

As expected, Sandro Tonali is still not eligible to play, while Dubravka, Gillespie, Botman (ACL), Lascelles (ACL), Targett, L. Miley (broken foot), White, and Wilson (back) are also missing from the squad.

Hull City XI: Pandur, Coyle, Jones, McLoughlin, Jacob, Simons, Estupinan, Omur, Slater, Giles, Longman
