“A risk” – Pundit sends Norwich City warning after Leicester City transfer decision
Pundit Carlton Palmer has urged Norwich City against waiting to sign Leicester City striker Tom Cannon on loan, with the Foxes reportedly set to keep him at the club until at least the closing stages of the window.
A recent report from transfer journalist Alan Nixon, via Patreon, has stated that Norwich, among a host of fellow Championship clubs, are keen on bringing in the 21-year-old for the campaign, but face a snag due to Jamie Vardy’s injury stopping Leicester from sending him out on loan for the time being.
Veteran Vardy remains in a race to be fully fit for the start of the new season, and as a result, any potential move for the Republic of Ireland international looks set to take place at the end of the transfer window, rather than before the EFL season, which kicks-off this weekend.
That could have a knock-on effect on Adam Idah’s potential departure, after Nixon revealed that Norwich are keen on Cannon as Idah’s replacement, given he is a firm target for Celtic.
Boss Johannes Hoff Thorup has reiterated that Idah is “definitely part of (his) plans,” but he could seemingly leave the club if the price is right this summer, after Football Insider recently reported that the Scottish champions are set to submit a new bid for him after the Canaries rejected a £4m offer last month.
Norwich face an issue if they continue to target Cannon now, as the possible time scales between the respective moves do not match up, and they will have just two strikers, Josh Sargent and Ashley Barnes, in the opening weeks of the season if they let Idah leave soon.

Cannon is a top forward at second-tier level, but is looking to leave the King Power Stadium this summer following promotion to the Premier League and a less than ideal season on a personal level last year.
Despite joining on a five-year deal for around £7.5 million from boyhood club Everton last September, the Irishman was limited to just 13 league appearances for Leicester in 2023/24, netting three times.
