Harry Souttar reveals his thinking after being handed brutal transfer message
Stoke City old boy Harry Souttar says he didn’t have to think twice about leaving Leicester City after being told his time was up at the King Power Stadium.Souttar, who quit Stoke 18 months ago to join the Premier League Foxes in a £15m deal, had been linked with a return to the bet365 Stadium this summer.
However, the Scottish-born Australia World Cup player has instead joined the Potters’ Championship rivals Sheffield United on a season-long loan and will hope to reignite his career at Bramall Lane.
The centre-back played just four times under Enzo Maresca last season as Leicester won promotion back to the top-flight after relegation a year before.

He had hoped to re-establish himself with the arrival of Steve Cooper as manager, but the new boss preferred Conor Coady, Jannik Vestergaard, Wout Faes and new signing Caleb Okoli as his backline options, meaning Souttar was told he was free to leave.
The 25-year-old has now revealed that as soon as he was told he would be “available”, he rushed to get a deal sorted with the Blades, who will be among the Championship promotion favourites this season.
“I knew that it might be on for a couple of weeks, but over the weekend I was waiting on the phone call telling me to come up to Sheffield,” Souttar told his new club. “I can’t wait to get started.”
“The club speaks for itself. I don’t need to tell anyone how big the club is. As soon as I found out I was available and the club was looking at me, it was a no brainer to come here.”
“I spoke to the gaffer a few times [Chris Wilder], but he didn’t have to sell the club to me at all. I’ve known some of the lads here and know about the club’s ethos and vision.”
