‘At least Leeds still have Gnonto’ as accumulators ruined by late Aaronson howler

How do you pick the bones out of that then? All the highs and lows of a typical roller-coaster Championship encounter were encapsulated in Leeds United’s opening-day draw with Portsmouth at Elland Road.

Daniel Farke’s side scored three goals, led the game, battled back from behind and should have won it in injury-time on a breathless afternoon. A point apiece doesn’t quite seem enough given both sides’ efforts, with Pompey impressing on their return to the second tier.

Leeds are left frustrated not to have won, of course, and should have had Brenden Aaronson not dragged a late gilt-edged chance wide, but there were plenty positives, not least Willy Gnonto’s display. Here’s what some of the national media made of a remarkable game.
