Rotherham United travelled to St James Park yesterday to take on Exeter City in the first game of the new season with the hosts taking all three points with a seventy-first minute goal. But what about those stats?
Possession wise the Grecians had fifty-nine per cent to the Millers forty-one while shots on goal saw Rotherham have thirteen which was two less than the hosts. Exeter had seven shots to target to the Millers two.
Our passing percentage was sixty-eight per cent, City’s ten per cent more while we won fifty-one per cent of the ariel duels. The Millers had double the corners of Exeter with four and both teams committed eleven fouls, both winning ten of them. There were three yellow cards in the game, two of which went to the Grecians.
I don’t think yesterday’s performance was one we was expecting but, it has been put to me, that maybe our expectations were too high. There was little support down the left wing and midfield, for much of the game, was missing. Neither strikers gave me much hope but then did they get balls in to them? Well, I do think they did some of the time.
But it is just one game and we have to put that behind us and carry on (after all it wasn’t as bad as last season’s first game now was it?)
