Speaking exclusively to CaughtOffside recently, Jonathan Johnson explained the various moving parts in the Ugarte situation and what PSG’s plans might be for the Uruguay international.
“Ugarte to United seems to have gathered pace quite significantly and it’s not too surprising. I think Ugarte is tailor-made for the Premier League and I think the drop-off from Casemiro in the season just gone means it’s normal United would be looking for a profile like that to replace him,” Johnson said a few weeks ago.
Manchester United could dent Leeds United’s promotion rivals significantly with new transfer – View
Leeds are no longer the relegated big-swingers of the Championship as they were last season alongside Southampton and Leicester City.
However, they are heavily fancied for automatic promotion once more, joined by the three sides most recently coming down from the Premier League, including a very strong Burnley side.
One important issue being the club could still lose star players before the end of the month, as relegated sides including Leeds did last season.
The Athletic reported this week that Manchester United’s attempts to invest in new signings could see them pursue Burnley’s key midfielder Sander Berge – who they are prepared to sell.
Berge played 37 games last season under Vincent Kompany, proving to be a key player in midfield despite their relegation.
It would have been baffling if Burnley went through the entirety of the summer window without many major outgoings, given they have a squad that looks too bloated to manage for Parker currently.
Berge is a standout for this Championship division in terms of quality in midfield, and would be a significant boost for the Clarets, if they were to keep hold of the 26-year-old.
