Confirmed: £6m Sunderland transfer clause has already expired amid Tottenham rumours

Since then, Cirkin has experienced injury troubles and was limited to 28 league appearances the season after and just eight during the 2023-24 campaign. However, new head coach Régis Le Bris has been boosted by the return to fitness of Cirkin with the defender starring against Cardiff City.
Spurs did have a buy-back option of £6million which has now expired with reports some time ago suggesting the Premier League club were looking into taking Cirkin back. The transfer clause was valid until 30 June 2024. Tottenham, though, will be entitled to a percentage of the profit on any subsequent sale of Cirkin, who is under contract at Sunderland until 2026.
Japhet Tanganga says this summer was the right time for him to leave Tottenham Hotspur but admitted that he aims to be back in the Premier League before too long.
Tanganga initially showed plenty of promise after breaking into the first-team but a combination of injuries and falling out of favour with various managers saw him struggle to rack up consistent minutes at the North London club.
The 25-year-old impressed on loan at Millwall during the second half of last season and signed permanently for the Championship side earlier his summer after being released by Tottenham.
While it was not the ideal way to leave his boyhood club, the Spurs academy graduate insisted that he does not have any regrets and remains proud of what he achieved at Hotspur Way.
